Humble Beginnings

This blog is borne of a desire to share my work with the world. It may or may not reach very many people, but the point is to show my process, have a space to talk about it, and indulge in my learning journey in a way I haven’t before.

I’m always worried about sounding pushy or silly when I talk about my work, especially if it isn’t paid work or I do it in my free time. I’m learning, however, that it’s important to talk about: to say, here is where I am, this is what makes me happy and how well I do it, here’s how I go about getting these results and what I’ve done.

Data analysis and by extension data science is something I could talk about for hours if people let me. It’s so versatile and interesting and it’s not overly complicated to explain or teach people.

I’ve also got an interest in technical writing, to the point that I’ve been studying for certification in it. While overall it isn’t as strong of a passion to me as data analysis, I feel like the core of it is the same: translating information to the layman.

In that way, I think data analysis is an amazing challenge. With a huge dataset at your fingertips, you’re able to decipher what’s there and what it says, and then translate the most important parts.

Data mining has to be my favorite part of the whole process for that reason. Where I can come up with a million different questions and figure out how to answer them. Seeing the results tends to be incredibly satisfying for me.

I hope that you decide to stick around and watch me grow my data analysis skillset. I don’t know how fun it’ll be for you to watch, but I’ll have a lot of fun doing it!

The plan for the moment is to focus on updating once a week on my progress for various projects. This will become a sort of live portfolio of sorts? I’m not sure what else to call it, but that’s what I’m going for.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and for your interest!
